Football hooliganism increases in Slovakia

Groups of football hooligans are becoming more organised, planning fights with rival gangs before matches, according to the daily SME.

Last week a group of Trnava hooligans attacked a bus containing rival football fans from Banská Bystrica. Police investigations have suggested that the attack had been arranged between members of both sides.

The most feared groups are the Trnava Red Black Warriors, Slovan Hooligans Pressburg and Žilina Yellow Green Fanatics. Each of the groups has several dozen members who join the clubs for the opportunity to fight.

The Interior Ministry claims that the average member is often unemployed and comes from a broken family; however, the group leaders are often financially well-off individuals.
