WHILE many lament the commercialisation of the Christmas season, a poll conducted by TNS Slovakia agency in November 2014 found a majority of Slovaks still perceive Christmas as a family holiday.
Some 71 percent of respondents considered it a family for families, with 49 percent also considering Christmas to be a holiday of peace, one-third as a holiday of traditions (34 percent) and full of snow (31 percent).
According to some Slovaks, Christmas is also a religious holiday (21 percent), full of fairy-tale charm (19 percent), but also financially challenging (13 percent) and stressful (11 percent), the TASR newswire wrote. The polls also showed that majority of Slovaks (78 percent) prefer artificial trees, since they are convenient and can be used over a number of years.
