Foreign exporters in Slovakia hail switchover to euro

The Slovak unit of Swedish firm SCA Hygiene Products in Gemerská Hôrka (Banská Bystrica region) is among the foreign-based export-oriented investors in Slovakia that welcome the country's upcoming changeover to the euro.

"Our exports make up 93 percent of our output ... we welcome the euro," said Anna Balážová, SCA manager for financial services.

She added that the arrival of the euro is a boon during the current financial crisis.

"First of all, exchange-rate turbulence involving the national currency will cease to exist, something that can't be said about other countries. It is beneficial for us to enter a stable monetary environment," she said.

The SCA has set up a special implementation team to handle the arrival of the new currency, with the Slovak plant backed to a large extent by its parent company in Sweden. TASR
