THE FRENCH-SLOVAK school, which has existed since 2003, started the academic year 2014/2015 at a new location. L’école française de Bratislava moved from Cadrova street in Bratislava’s Kramáre borough into the reconstructed building of a former elementary school at Marie Curie Sklodowska Street in Petržalka.
“I am also pleased that via our school, mutual Slovak-French relations will tighten and that also thanks to this school, the attractiveness and the interest in the French language will increase amongst Slovaks,” Education Minister Peter Pellegrini said on September 4, as cited by the TASR newswire.
French Ambassador Didier Lopinot highlighted the integrating element which the school brings within the French and Slovak education system, as well as linking the cultures of both countries.
“Its opening is also a celebration of the alliance between France and Slovakia,” Lopinot said.
Yves Caffe, the director of the school, marking opening of the new school year at new premises as a milestone in the school’s history, recalled that 150 children attended the school last year. Of them, 29 percent were French, and 45 percent of students were from mixed Slovak-French families. The school wants to increase the number of its students to 350 students during the next two years.
