Among the positives of Slovakia's entry to the Schengen zone will be unrestricted movement around Europe, but it could also result in a rise in crime, Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič said on December 20.
"Our entry is very positive, although it will bring certain problems pertaining to migration and a possible increase in crime in the country," he said.
According to him, this is not just a problem for Slovakia. All governments will have to be vigilant, he added.
The President described Slovakia's entry to the Schengen zone as a memorable day for all those who remember borders covered with barbed wire and barriers. TASR
