The GPO will deal with the motion; after General Prosecutor Jaromír Čižnár studied the case, he allocated it to the department led by former general prosecutor Dobroslav Trnka, the Sme daily wrote on May 23.
Harabin claims that when the cover of a lamp above his chair fell on May 10 in the courtroom, it was attempted murder or serious bodily harm. Among the suspects, he named Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, incumbent head of the Supreme Court Daniela Švecová, or chairwoman of the Judicial Council Jana Bajánková. He asked for bodyguards for himself and his whole family.
Harabin slammed the GPO for not immediately launching a criminal prosecution and complained to Čižnár on May 12. On May 20, the GPO confirmed for Sme it was going to deal with the issue. The prosecutor who gets allocated Harabin’s motion will decide on whether the prosecution will be launched, or refuse it as groundless; he has a 30 day deadline to decide.
Harabin has been in conflict with Trnka at least since 2008.
The court proceeding on May 10 was to discipline Harabin, who released a convicted sex offender identified as Milan M. on lapse charges due to a procedural issue. After the glass pieces fell, chair of the disciplinary panel, Jurja Florovič, should have called in police to secure evidence, Harabin opined. However, when Florovič on that day called cleaners instead to prepare the room to continue the trial, Harabin did not protest. On May 17, he sent a mass email with a link to an older Czech comedy showing a similar accident.
