This announcement came only days after information emerged, linking the party to money-laundering schemes.

The ruling party Smer has also publicised information on the below-market-price privatisation of the Crowne Plaza hotel, formerly the Hotel Forum, which took place during the previous administration under former PM Mikuláš Dzurinda, and claims to be in possession of even more damning information.

Addressing journalists, Trnka further confirmed that mafia boss Jozef Svoboda may be linked to the Crowne Plaza deal but stopped short of linking the deal to Svoboda's murder in 2004.

Trnka also said that he has sent requests to counterpart offices in Switzerland, Great Britain and the Cayman Islands, and even to the SDKÚ itself, asking for information on the case, which also includes accusations of the registration of fictitious foreign firms.
