Slovak police gained a strong weapon to enhance their fight against the underworld September 10 when German Ambassador Ludger Buerstedde gave Slovak Interior Minister Ladislav Pittner six high-tech police cars and seven transmitters to help combat crime. The six Volkswagens are fully equipped with modern tools and will serve the Interior Ministry's Department of Organized Crime.

While handing over the keys, Buerstedde said that Slovakia and Germany are good neighbours and that crime cannot be stopped at the border. Buerstedde also stated that Germany supports the efforts of the Slovak government and people to become a part of the EU, and he underscored that this wish is "our joint interest."
