Google has entered Slovakia's market by establishing an office that will provide various services in the field of e-commerce, representatives of the company told the TASR newswire on June 21.
According to the company’s country manager, Rasťo Kulich, the opportunities for online trading in Slovakia are substantial, stating that despite the fact that 67 percent of Slovak households have an internet connection, internet purchases are not widespread and even though more than one-third of Slovaks shop online, the average amount of money spent by each customer is almost the lowest in Europe.
Kulich views the low number of companies offering goods via the internet as the main reason for the untapped potential. This option has not been fully discovered by companies so far, he said. Google Slovensko wants to focus its activities in this direction by supporting the development of e-marketing, with the emphasis on exporters and small and medium-sized enterprises.
Google's decision to set up a representative office in Slovakia was praised by Economy Minister Juraj Miškov. He stressed that information technologies will contribute more and more to the country's economy.
