AT A SESSION on May 10, the Slovak government earmarked Sk270 million (€7.2 million) to cover the debt incurred last year by the public broadcaster Slovak Radio (SRo).
At the same time, the government tasked the culture minister to solve Sro's financing problems by the end of August this year, the TASR news wire wrote.
"It is already apparent that SRo will post a loss in 2006 as well, and the government will have to deal with the financial situation of this institution in the future," wrote the Finance Ministry.
The government also earmarked Sk40 million (€1.1 million) to the town of Vysoké Tatry to help rebuild infrastructure following the November 2004 windstorm.
Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš said that the money came partly from the government's budgetary reserve, as well as from savings from the state's lower than expected contribution to the EU budget.
The government also released Sk416 million to help regional schools. Of that sum, Sk300 million should go towards increasing teachers' wages, the Hospodárske noviny daily wrote.
