Following the Government Session on December 19, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that the consumption tax on fuels won't increase in the foreseeable future because the country has found other ways of financing its emergency oil reserve.
"We have gained financial resources ... and bought enough crude oil, so it won't be necessary to increase the consumption tax," Fico said.
A proposal to increase the tax was submitted on December 12 by the Administration of State Material Reserves. After some consideration, it was rejected by the Economy Ministry, which led to Fico’s announcement. TASR
