The Government intends to undertake a complete re-organization of the Slovak Land Fund (SPF) that should result in an entirely new structure, Prime Minister Robert Fico said at a press conference on November 27.
As early as November 28, the Cabinet intends to discuss a proposal for the temporary suspension of land transfers administered by the SPF. The Government also wants to set up a work-group that would prepare legislative changes regulating future transactions that involve SPF property. The composition of the group should be announced by December 1.
The PM also pointed out that he has submitted all necessary documents to the Prosecutor General's Office, and has asked Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka to update him on an investigation into suspicious land transfers arranged by SPF. According to the Office, it is already dealing with the case. The opposition parties have threatened to propose Fico's dismissal unless he recalls SPF chairman Miloslav Šebek and other nominees of the premier's Smer party. Fico has rejected the Opposition's demands. TASR
