Haiti was the largest beneficiary of Slovak humanitarian aid in 2010 as after the devastating earthquake hit Haiti in January Slovakia sent humanitarian aid in two rounds with the first consignment worth €225,000 in January and aid worth €220,000 in February, the SITA newswire reported.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assigned an additional €50,000 to UNICEF, the Red Cross, People in Perils and ADRA to implement urgent projects to help the people in need. Slovakia provided humanitarian aid worth €2.079 million in 2010, out of which €160,000 was financial aid, said the spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ľuboš Schwarzbacher.
