Meat-producer HYZA announced that it will end production at its plant in Žilina as of November 30 this year with around 200 staff to be laid off, the TASR newswire reported on September 13. The move comes in response to increasing imports of what Petr Blaha, the head of the company, called cheap poultry meat of dubious quality coming from abroad.
Poultry processing will be relocated to the company's plant in Topoľčany. Around 50 people will retain their jobs at the plant in Žilina, but will only be involved in storing and distributing meat.
