HIGHWAY construction on disputed property will no longer be limited to the priority D1 and R1 highways projects. Parliament on November 26 approved a revision to the law enabling the state to build roads on land whose ownership rights are not settled and extended the state’s rights in this area, the Sme daily wrote.
The opposition said it regards the revision as unconstitutional. Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH) MP and former Justice Minister Daniel Lipšic criticised the ruling coalition for trying to broaden measures to accelerate highway construction in Slovakia, even though the original law has ended up before the Constitutional Court, the SITA newswire wrote. He argued that the new legislation does not respect ownership rights.
The opposition wants to refer the new amendment to the Constitutional Court. However, the court has yet to deal with the case concerning the original law.
