Some members of the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) and Hungarian businessmen who are unhappy with the direction of the SMK are calling for a new party to represent ethnic Hungarians in Slovakia.
The group is dissatisfied with the policy of new SMK head Pál Csáky and the actions of the SMK deputy chairman for strategy, Miklós Duray, who strengthened his position in the party since the leadership elections, the Sme daily wrote on August 28.
Political scientist László Ollos said former SMK leader Béla Bugár would be of key importance for the success of the new party. Bugár is dissatisfied with Duray's statements.
However, the former SMK boss said on August 27 that he would definitely not leave the SMK. He thinks that establishing a new Hungarian party would be too dangerous, because representatives of the Hungarian minority would not make it into parliament if there were two Hungarian parties competing for their votes.
