Hygienists confirmed a second case of measles in Bratislava. Like the first case, this man is also hospitalised in University Hospital in Kramáre, Bratislava. Hygienists have not specified where the man became infected.
“Currently, an intense epidemiology investigation is taking place, which has not been concluded and so it is premature to comment on other questions,” Katarína Nosálová, spokesperson of the regional office of Public Health Authority (RÚVZ) in Bratislava, told the TASR newswire.

The second case of suspected measles was reported on December 11, while the first patient (aged 39) was hospitalised on December 5. The first man stated he had spent some time in Austria.
This year, already one case of imported measles was recorded with an Italian man studying in Košice. He probably caught the infection in Novi Sad in Serbia. Other suspected cases – concerning children – were not ultimately confirmed.
Measles are very infectious and the disease may even be fatal. In Slovakia, repeated vaccination is obligatory.
