Icy conditions cause spike in accidents

The Bratislava Police Department reported 18 motor accidents across the region amid icy road conditions on the morning of January 6, half of them in the Slovak capital. Six accidents occurred on the Bratislava-bound D1 motorway, including one in which the driver sustained minor injuries. There were also three accidents on the D2.

The Bratislava Police Department reported 18 motor accidents across the region amid icy road conditions on the morning of January 6, half of them in the Slovak capital. Six accidents occurred on the Bratislava-bound D1 motorway, including one in which the driver sustained minor injuries. There were also three accidents on the D2.

"The accidents were generally caused by drivers failing to adjust their speed to the road conditions," a regional policy spokesperson told SLOVAKIA.

There was no indication any of the drivers involved in the accidents were intoxicated. TASR
