The influenza epidemic which swept Slovakia during the first two weeks of February is in retreat across most districts of Slovakia, the Health Ministry reported. Only in exceptional circumstances did the incidence increase. In the district of Namestovo, in the region of Žilina, respiratory diseases have risen by 70% from mid-February.
The fall in the number of infections is in part attributed to spring school-vacation or other flu holidays called at schools across the county as the crisis spread.
