Interior Ministry prepares border barriers to prevent “a migration wave”

THE SLOVAK Interior Ministry has announced it is preparing to use a multi-purpose guidance barrier to prevent a huge wave of refugees from heading towards the country, which is gradually being positioned along the Hungarian-Slovak border.

This is a multi-purpose device that the Fire and Rescue Brigade will have at its disposal and may be used for other emergency cases too, ministry spokesman Petar Lazarov informed the SITA newswire on September 23. “It can be used as an anti-flood barrier, as protection against mudslides and also as a guidance barrier to avert a big migration wave from state borders at any point,” he explained, adding that it can be quickly transported and located at any site necessary without the need to dig deep, adapt the terrain or build fundamental structures

The barrier is slid out of a container pulled by a semitrailer. Each container consists of 330 metres of the barrier. It is only designed for short sections so ti would not be used for the whole border, only for parts where migrants can be expected, the TASR newswire wrote.

In this way, the Interior Ministry could navigate refugees to a single point where they could be checked according to Schengen rules, i.e. identified and registered. ”Slovakia has to be prepared to react to what is currently happening in Europe,” Lazarov summed up.
