The Interior Ministry decided to cancel the disputed tender for food coupons supplier on February 27 despite the relevant authorities indicating that its proceedings were in accordance with the law, SLOVAKIA was told by the ministry spokesman Erik Tomáš.
"The Interior Ministry will ask the Public Tenders Office to issue guidelines for the next tender, whose committee will include representatives of the media and non-governmental organisations invited by the ministry," said Tomáš.
"We'll also propose an amendment to the legislation that will clearly define the tender organiser's duty to invite tender participants to be there when envelopes with their offers are opened, even in the case of low-value tenders," according to an interior ministry statement. [The initial tender became controversial when participants complained that they were not allowed to be present during the opening of the envelopes containing the bids.]
"The Interior Ministry organised a tender for food supply service via food coupons, which means that food coupons are part of this employee service," said Tomáš in reaction to a statement by the former KDH MP Vladimír Palko, who said that a tender for food coupons supplier for the ministry's employees isn't in accordance with the law.
"The Interior Ministry has proceeded in compliance with the law," Tomáš stressed. TASR
