The Slovak Parliament approved the government’s programme statement, thus expressing confidence towards the Cabinet of Prime Minister Iveta Radičová. Seventy-nine of the 149 deputies present supported the program statement while 66 deputies voted against it, SITA newswire reported.
The new centre-right government comprising the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), and Most-Híd parties has a slim majority of 79 votes in the 150-seat Slovak Parliament.
The government in its statement is promising a slimmer public-finance deficit, a healthier business environment, a more active civil society, more corruption-sensitive political and public life, better access to justice, enough jobs to reduce social risks, an innovative society and access to quality health care. This is how Radičová summed up the priorities of her government when appealing for the support of parliament for the programme on August 3.
