Economy Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek says he views the expropriation of energy companies among the options in how to deal with operators that plan to raise prices by 20 percent this year.
Speaking after the weekly government meeting on August 20, Jahnátek was quick to correct reporters referring to Prime Minister Robert Fico's hints about the expropriation of energy monopolies.
"The prime minister never said that we were going to expropriate. He only said that such an option was on the table," Jahnátek said.
The media, he added, has misinterpreted Fico's remarks, indicating that such an (expropriation) option is provided for in the Constitution.
"The media are misconstruing things, and we do not approve."
He added that his ministry is watching the energy monopolies.
"We are monitoring the situation and will respond when any irregularities occur." TASR
