He explained there were no reasons to file the appeal. Moreover, Jánoš observes all duties and limitations ordered by the court, the SITA newswire reported.
Jánoš was accused of abusing his wife in March. After the charges were brought, he resigned as an MP and also as Smer district head in Prievidza (Trenčín Region). The lawyer representing his wife Iveta – Ivan Katrinec – has filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General’s Office against Jánoš for alleged blackmail, threats and coercion.

The Trenčín Regional Court did not order taking him into custody, but banned Jánoš from trying to communicate or approach his wife and daughter, or to travel abroad. The General Prosecutor’s Office, however, disagreed with the decision and called on Borec to submit an appeal. It disliked the fact that Jánoš requested sick leave in order to avoid the police hearing, the Sme daily wrote.
The minister had six months to submit the appeal, with the deadline expiring on September 25. During this time it refused to comment on the case, according to Sme.
The General Prosecutor’s Office refused to comment on the decision, saying it still has not received an explanation.
“We do not know the reasons why the justice minister did not agree with the proposal to submit the appeal,” General Prosecutor’s Office’s spokesperson Andrea Predajňová told Sme.
