Karol Mitrík appointed SIS director

Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič appointed Karol Mitrík to the post of director of Slovakia’s intelligence service, the SIS, on Wednesday, August 25.

Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič appointed Karol Mitrík to the post of director of Slovakia’s intelligence service, the SIS, on Wednesday, August 25.

The cabinet had approved the nomination of Mitrík, a former MP and mayor of Spišská Nová Ves, to the post on July 21. Gašparovič had been awaiting the required security clearance on Mitrík, the SITA newswire wrote.

Mitrík replaced Jozef Magala, who was appointed on July 27, 2006. The president thanked Magala for his service, adding that the SIS made progress under his leadership. Gašparovič said that he hoped the new director would continue the good work that the SIS has done.
