THE PARLIAMENTARY caucus of the opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) party spent an hour on December 12 trying to convince MP Peter Gabura not to employ former journalist Peter Tóth as an advisor.

Tóth, who used to work for the Sme daily before leaving under suspicion that he was also cooperating with the SIS secret service, also served briefly as SIS counter-intelligence chief in 2003.

Gabura, who called Tóth "a quality journalist", agreed to sever the connection.

However, two of Gabura's remaining assistants have also caused unease within the KDH - one is the wife of Attorney General Dobroslav Trnka, while the other is Elemír Hojstrič, a party functionary from Spišská Nová Ves, who according to a report on Markíza TV is not taking care of his extramarital children, and has recommended to his girlfriend that she have an abortion.

KDH Chairman Pavol Hrušovský said the selection of Hojstrič was "in drastic contrast to the family policy of the KDH".
