Representatives of the newly-formed Conservative Democrats of Slovakia (KDS) and the non-parliamentary Civic Conservative Party (OKS) will be included on a joint candidate list for the parliamentary elections in 2010, KDS preparation-committee member Vladimír Palko said on April 1.
Palko added that the adoption of a definitive decision on this initiative will be a matter for the bodies of the two parties, the TASR newswire wrote. Turning to the reasons for the move, he said that the OKS is the KDS's closest partner, and that the current representatives of the two parties have been treading a joint path since the fall of Communism in November 1989.
OKS chairman Peter Zajac noted that both parties have a conservative orientation.
"ODS and OKS mutually complement each other, and by this move we can cover the conservative part of the spectrum in Slovakia," he said. Representatives of the parties intend to ask parliament to issue a declaration concerning the recent developments in Tibet. At the same time, they want to urge the body to call on the Chinese Government to refrain from using violence against the protesters. TASR
