The non-parliamentary Conservative Democrats of Slovakia (KDS) has again stated its intention to re-open the issue of revoking the infamous 'Mečiar amnesties' during the upcoming session of parliament, KDS MP Rudolf Bauer said at a press conference in Košice on October 16.
"Justice matters to us. We call on Vladimír Mečiar not to be afraid and allow justice to take its course," Bauer said. "We think that Mečiar abused this tool. It's not in the spirit of amnesty to prevent an investigation. It's necessary for Slovakia to investigate the accusations in the case of Róbert Remiáš or the marred referendum (which have been the source of numerous motions and counter-motions over the past decade since they were issued by Vladimír Mečiar while acting as president in 1998)."
Turning to the ongoing financial crisis in the world, KDS chairman Vladimír Palko presented a model of managers' co-responsibility for running banks, which he wants to submit in Brussels. According to the proposal, bank managers during a period of five years would deposit 15 percent of their salary in a special deposit in the bank they are responsible for. The bank would only pay the money back if it didn't have a problem during that five-year period. As well, KDS reports that it has started on October 16 to collect signatures for their presidential candidate and KDS member František Mikloško. TASR
