Murdered journalists Daphne Caruana Galizia from Malta and Ján Kuciak from Slovakia received Germany’s 2018 Goldene Victoria Media Prize in memoriam in Berlin on November 5.
The Association of German Magazine Publishers (VDZ) awarded the journalists, emphasising that the protection and freedom of press and opinion are one of its most important requirements.

The awards were given to Jozef Kuciak, the father of the murdered Slovak journalist, and to Matthew Caruana Galizia and Corinne Vella, son and a sister of the murdered Maltese journalist, the TASR newswire reported.
Both Kuciak and Galizia were writing stories about corruption. While the latter died in a car bomb in October 2017, the former was shot dead in February of 2018.
