LANDOWNERS who, in the early 1990s, failed to claim their property confiscated by the communists between 1948 and 1989 will be able to do so in the course of next year.
Parliament approved a law that will enable original landowners to claim property that is currently administered by the country's Land Fund (PF). About 600,000 hectares of land are currently registered as belonging to unidentified owners.
Pavol Botka, head of the Association of Landowners and Agro-entrepreneurs estimated for the Pravda daily newspaper that approximately 100,000 hectares would be returned to original owners.
The land that remains unclaimed will be transferred to municipalities.
