Level of pension rise unclear

Slovak pensions are due to rise in July, but the actual level of the increase is still unclear.

The director of the social security provider Sociálna poistovňa (SP), Miroslav Knitl, together with several MPs is calling for a rise of Sk500 a month (€12). Knitl says that there are enough funds in SP to cover the rise, which would raise pensions by 8 percent.

Coalition SDKÚ member and deputy speaker of parliament Zuzana Martináková said it was important that the government did not risk exceeding the planned budget. MPs will decide the level of the rise at the next sitting of parliament.
