DEFENCE Minister Ľubomír Galko was born on February 14, 1968 in Klieština in the vicinity of Považská Bystrica. He studied at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Comenius University and in 1991 began working as a computer programmer.
Between 1993 and 2001 Galko was in the software applications business. From 2001 to 2003 he was a director of the Kaufland hypermarket in Bratislava and in 2003 and 2004 served as the deputy manager of the Interfruct Slovakia company. From 2004 to 2007 he was a director of the DN Centrum company and since 2007 he has worked as the director of DONA DN, a retail network.
Galko has been a member of Freedom and Solidarity party (SaS) since its foundation in 2009. He presently is a deputy chairman of the party and a head of its committee for regions. In the 2010 parliamentary elections he was elected MP from SaS but resigned that post to serve as defence minister.
Ľubomír Galko is married with two children.
