Coinciding with St Nicholas' Day, a Christmas tram will today begin operating in the centre of Bratislava.
The route is marked with a ❄ (snowflake) symbol and operates daily from December 6 to January 6, except on Christmas Eve (December 24). It will run on a circular route starting from the Jesenského stop.
The news was announced by Bratislava Mayor Matúš Vallo and the Chairman of the Board of the Bratislava Transport Company (DPB), Martin Rybanský.
"The tram will not run on its own, but will alternate with the historical T2 tram," Rybanský stated. It will operate on the route Jesenského – Centrum – Kapucínska – Chatam Sófer – Most SNP – Jesenského at 30-minute intervals, from 16:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and from 12:00 on weekends.
Christmas tree included
The main theme of the tram's decorations is fairy-tale Christmas and literary stories. The concept was created in collaboration with the popular Bratislava Book Festival (BRaK). The tram also features a Christmas tree made from unwanted books. The decorations are complemented by fairy-tale characters and lights.
"This year, the Christmas tram will also have a programme consisting of eight authors' readings," announced BRaK dramaturge Zuzana Bujačková.
Writers will read Christmas stories from the book "Dohviezdny večer" (Starry Evening) twice on each of the next four Saturdays. If you want to experience one of these magical Christmas rides, don't forget to register for a specific event here.
