THE SLOVAK Information Service (SIS) has been tapping the Hungarian Consulate in Košice since 2000, private television Markíza reported.
Businessman Miroslav Smutný from Moldava nad Bodvou (Košice region) provided the
information to the television station, saying that he witnessed the installation of the wire-tapping device.
According to Smutný, the two men who installed the device in the wall of the consul's living room were Pavol Solc and Jan Bodnár, who have since admitted to journalists that they work for SIS.
Vladimír Mitro, who was the head of SIS in 2000, says that Smutný's claims are false.
Interior Ministry spokesman Boris Ažaltovič said that this information is new to the ministry. He added that the ministry would pass on the information to the police, so that they can investigate the matter.
