Ministry accuses paralympic committee

An attack by the Education Ministry, which is led by Ján Mikolaj of the Slovak National Party, against the Slovak Paralympic Committee is reported by the Pravda daily on May 7. Following a financial audit, the ministry has accused the paralympic committee of misusing a state subsidy and diverting the money allocated. Committee boss Ján Riapos blamed the ministry for trying to discredit the committee. The ministry made use of the results of the audit before it was completed. Construction of a paralympic centre in Piešťany, at a cost of Sk120 million, is at stake. So far Sk50 million is reported to have been spent, using a subsidy and a loan. However, the ministry claims less has been spent and that the committee has been fabricating invoices.
