The programme, launched by the Pontis Foundation with the support of Endowment Fund Telekom which allocated €40,000 for this purpose, is free of charge for families. During the whole year, together 13 mobile educators will regularly visit 56 deaf children directly in families and teach parents practical games, exercises and methods to help the children. The aim of the programme is to teach families how to help children develop without specialists, the SITA newswire reported.
Mobile educators will visit families about two times a month, for 1.5 hours. The educators spend time with both children and their parents.
“With a game they stimulate hearing, communication, motor and intellectual skills of children,” said Juraj Récky, programme director of Pontis Foundation, as quoted by SITA. “They also explain the activities to parents and share necessary information with them.”
Experts say that good care about hearing-impaired children from an early age improves their life and impacts their successes and integration into society in adulthood. This is proven by the experiences of families that have utilised the help of mobile educators, as reported by SITA.
