More Slovak candidates for Strasbourg have been elected

MEMBERS of the Judicial Council have already decided about the fourth list of potential judges proposed to represent Slovakia at the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) on April 13.

They supported former ECHR lawyer Zuzana Dlugošová, Supreme Court Justice Alena Poláčková and Košice regional judge Ladislav Duditš as candidates for the empty judicial post at ECHR. Both Dlugosova and Duditš received their vote also in the previous election – which had been blocked by the government deeming that it was unbalanced.

The third candidate from the previous list, Ján Mazák, was replaced by Poláčková who had been running in every previous vote and has received enough support from the Judicial Council members, the Sme daily wrote in its April 14 issue.

Slovakia seems to have difficulties sending its representatives to the ECHR, as the nominated candidates have been either denied by government, top judicial bodies, or by the ECHR itself.
