Museum snowed in

MORE THAN one-and-a-half metres of snow fell at the open-air Museum of Kysuce Village in Vychylovka in February and museum employees had to use shovels as well as heavy equipment to keep the buildings of the museum from collapsing under the weight of the snow.

“Museum employees had to work hard to dig out the small islands of shingle roofs – [the museum's] folk architecture buildings – from the white mass. In an effort to relieve the old roof frames from the snow, museum workers climbed the roofs with shovels in their hands and it was also necessary to call in heavy equipment,” said Monika Kubicová of the museum to the SITA newswire.

Despite the cold and snowy weather in February construction work on a multi-functional building at the entrance to the museum continued so that a new railway station can be roofed in May. The railway and open-air museum in Vychylovka are the most visited parts of the Kysuce Museum, welcoming thousands of tourists each year.
