LESS bureaucracy and faster processing of applications at various state administration offices should be the main benefit of a new register of the population that the cabinet approved in its draft amendment to the law on reporting residency and the population register on February 20, the SITA newswire reported.
The new register will free individuals from having to repeatedly produce documents of their personal data to various authorities.
“A citizen will submit his data to a public authority only once, and through the register of the population the data of the individual will be received by other information systems in the public administration,” says the Interior Ministry, which prepared the draft amendment, as quoted by SITA.
The creation of this new population register and central reporting office will cost €3.62 million in 2013, and an additional €3.59 million for 2014 and 2015 each. Following its approval in parliament, the amended law should take effect on July 1, 2013, and the register and the reporting office should be operational from January 1, 2014.
