Slovakia will start preparing a bilateral agreement on social welfare with the United States of America, said Peter Burian, the new Slovak Ambassador to the US on November 27.
"Many people already work on both sides [of the Atlantic] and need to solve the issue of pensions, etc. We will start working on the agreement on social welfare at the bilateral level," Burian said.
He also wants to search for new investors in Washington, intensify economic relations and press on the US administration not to turn away Slovaks who obtained confirmation through the new electronic system for members of Visa Waiver countries.
Burian will seek support for Slovakia's policies among members of the US Congress, including Republican Congressman John Mica and Democratic Congressmen Joe Sestak and Bart Stupak.
Former Foreign Affairs Minister Eduard Kukan (opposition SDKÚ-DS) praised the government for chosing Burian for the position. SITA
