THE NEWLY appointed Slovak Ambassador to the United States, Peter Burian, has said he wants to use every opportunity which the recent lifting of US visa obligations for Slovak citizens has opened up. Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič gave Burian his credentials on November 26, the Aktualne.sk news site reported.
According to Burian, Slovakia is an interesting partner for the US not only because of its EU membership, but in particular due to its unique experience and knowledge of development in complicated regions of the western Balkans or in so-called ‘frozen conflicts’.
“The new [US] administration has indicated that it wants to seek multilateral solutions to current problems more than has been the case in the past,” said Burian after the ceremony.
Burian, who has also served as Slovak Ambassador to NATO, also intends to focus on developing economic relations.
