“The new hall demonstrates the quality of aviation transport development in Slovakia and I strongly believe that it will serve the public reliably and well for the decades ahead,” said airport director Maroš Jančula, as quoted by TASR.

He pointed out that the project, which included construction of the departure hall finished two years ago as well as the new hall, is the most important event in Slovakia’s passenger aviation sector during the past few decades in terms of strategy, technology and capacity.

Transport Ministry State Secretary František Palko expressed the hope that the new terminal will result in more transport links as well as more passengers, TASR wrote.

The concept to develop the airport was adopted by the first government of Robert Fico in 2008 and was divided into two parts from its inception. Overall costs were €120.6 million, with construction of the arrivals hall costing €46.6 million. Financing from public resources represented €69.7 million in total, with the money provided during the first part of the project, TASR reported.
