Tibor Papp was chosen as the fourth member of the VšZP board of directors through a selection procedure that appears to only be a formality, the Sme daily wrote on June 29. He himself said that “a lady from the health-care sector” called him to apply for the tender to become the fourth member of the board of directors of the state health insurer.
Papp accepted the bid and after four months of being a temporary member enrolled in the selection procedure to become a permanent member. He was unopposed in the tender that took place on May 29.
In an interview with the Sme daily, he said that he is not familiar with the health-care sector but is instead an economic expert and should deal only with economic issues on the board.
The Health Ministry, which is a 100-percent stockholder in the insurer, posted the results of the tender on its website on June 23. “The expansion of the VšZP board from three members to four is connected with a change of the organisational structure, spokesperson of the Health Ministry Zuzana Eliášová said in May.
The remaining three board members are Miroslav Kočan, Miroslav Ďuriš and Milan Horváth.
Papp is a former colleague of the Most-Hid MP Tibor Bastrnák of Komárno, but he rejects the idea that he is a nominee of this party (which is a coalition partner). Eliášová explained that Papp was selected by the ministry based on his expertise and experience, as he has been working in the economic sphere for 20 years.
VŠzP claims that Papp was the only candidate who registered for the tender and that he fulfilled the eligibility criteria, which were much softer than for the previous board members.
Most-Híd, the VšZP and the Health Ministry refused to answered Sme’s questions on whether Papp was the party’s nominee.
