The dismissed head of the National Property Fund (FNM), Anna Bubeníková, remains in her office as Miloslav Homola, the head of the office of the FNM executive committee, told the SITA newswire that Bubeníková came to the FNM office on January 18 and wanted to provide her portfolio to her successor but that could not be accomplished.
"She addressed the present members of the committee to hand over her post, but due to the fact that a new chairman of the FNM executive committee has not been appointed to date, this was not possible,” Homola said.
He added that for business and legal issues, two members of the executive committee act simultaneously on behalf of FNM and one of them must be the head of the committee, saying this is why it was impossible to terminate Bubeníková's FNM employment, SITA wrote.
President Ivan Gašparovič did not give his approval to the cabinet to discuss a proposal for filling Bubeníková’s vacancy, stating that the FNM can operate without interruption even without appointment of a new chair of the executive committee. During the absence of the executive committee’s chair, a member of the committee authorised by the chair can act on his or her behalf, Gašparovič said, according to SITA.
Economy Minister Juraj Miškov proposed two members of the FNM executive committee as candidates for the top post, Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) nominee Pavol Faktor and Dionýz Švehlík of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS). Another alternative was that the cabinet would agree on a different candidate for the post.
The cabinet dismissed Bubeníková last week over allegations stemming from the intelligence service file named Gorilla which purportedly documents the influence of the Penta financial group on Slovak politics.
