The new law on public administration will obligate high state officials to record each meeting they have into a special diary. The measure's intention is to more effectively fight against corruption.
High officials and civil servants will even have to record meetings that fall outside the realm of their work - especially when they meet people who might influence their actions. The officials have been critical of the new regulations, saying that they are too time consuming and arguing that they might not be effective in fighting corruption.
"This is one step to reduce corruption. The state is entitled to take this step. Persons who serve in high state posts must be checked, and their contacts must be transparent," head of the Cabinet Office's anti-corruption department Ján Hrubala told the daily SME.
