Slovak MPs supported a proposal by the ruling Christian Democrats (KDH) that the country's treaty on accession to the EU should include an amendment granting Slovakia autonomy in decisions regarding cultural and ethical issues.
The issues could include protection of life before birth and the country's position on equal rights between homosexual and heterosexual couples. In the past, left-wing and liberal politicians have accused the KDH of trying to introduce ideological dogma into politics.
