Opposition parties have organised already the seventh protest in front of the Bonaparte residential complex, calling for ousting Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák for the so-called Bašternák case.
About 700 people came to protest in front of the building, in which Prime Minister Robert Fico rents a flat from businessman Ladislav Bašternák, suspected of tax fraud, the SITA newswire reported.
The demonstration kicked off at 18:15, with several politicians of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) delivering speeches. They praised the fact that people flock to the protests even during the summer break and during the vacations.
Protest-goers were encouraged to sign a petition for Kaliňák’s ouster that started on July 29 in Handlová (Trenčín Region) and, once again, waved red cards to signal their disapproval with the interior minister. Many chanted “shame” or “step down”, the TASR newswire wrote.

The opposition has so far failed in its attempts to remove Kaliňák via no-confidence motions in parliament. The two most recent motions were blocked by the coalition. Meanwhile, Fico keeps defending Kaliňák as one of the most successful interior ministers in Slovakia’s history, claiming that he also has the support of foreign partners.
