As of October 27, petrol prices at Slovak filling stations will drop by another 80 hellers (€0.026) per litre, the Tankovanie.sk Web site wrote. The price of diesel will drop by 50 hellers (€0.016) per litre.
"The reason is that the global financial crisis is lowering the demand for crude oil,” the Web site wrote. “This shows up not only in the decrease of the quoted prices of crude oil and crude-oil products on international markets, as well as in the subsequent drop of prices at filling stations. The drop of quoted prices on international markets is being prompted also by the situation of oil deposits in the USA that confirms lower interest in crude oil and crude-oil products in the U.S."
It's the sixth consecutive decrease in prices in less than four weeks. Meanwhile, most analysts agree that the current global financial crisis can push the price of crude oil down further. According to the Statistics Office, the average price of 95-octane petrol was Sk37.175 (€1.25) per litre as of October 20, while the average price of 98-octane petrol was Sk41.82 (€1.39) per litre, the average price of diesel Sk40.36 (€1.34) per litre, and the average price of LPG Sk17.25 (€0.57) per litre.
