A wind park will be built in the Nitra County and supply electricity to 30,000 households. Bratislava-based company Green Energy Slovakia wants to build the park with wind turbines supplied by the Danish company Vestas. The park should reduce production of carbon dioxide by over 95,000 tons annually. The wind turbines will be situated at least 800 metres from the nearest residential area. Based on an agreement on cooperation, all the afflicted towns and villages will get a financial share from each generated kilowatt-hour of electric energy.
The investor launched preparatory works in 2004. It asked respective municipal offices for cooperation in preparation of the project and installed a mast with the technology measuring wind speed and direction. Not all the residents were happy about the intention and, for example, such as resident in Vráble, who signed a petition against it.
"People’s worries are mostly rooted in insufficient knowledge of wind parks. We would like to debunk the myths that our opponents are spreading," said Tomáš Lacko, an authorized representative of Green Energy Slovakia. SITA
