No positions at Slovakia’s Government Office are occupied by political nominees, Prime Minister Iveta Radičová said on Wednesday, October 27, the TASR newswire reported.

Her statement followed an initiative by the ‘Ordinary People’ faction of co-governing Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party in which the four members in an open letter earlier in the day called on members of the cabinet to provide comprehensive information about the way in which new people were installed in state positions, including a list of senior public positions and their officeholders, their party affiliation and the manner in which the candidate was picked.

Radičová told TASR newswire that she must address the problem of finding highly-qualified and language-skilled people to take over some posts which requires a salary that falls within a certain range. In this connection, she urged people who may be interested in a career at Government Office to file applications.

There is no problem going public with the way in which new people were nominated into their current positions she said, while advising Igor Matovič of 'Ordinary People' to raise such a request at Coalition Council.

Transport Minister Ján Figeľ (KDH) asserted that the selection of candidates for posts is up to the ministry concerned with detailed criteria being public. He also recommended that Matovič address such initiatives within the parliamentary caucus to which he is a member. Agriculture and Environment Minister Zsolt Simon (Most-Hid), for his part, said that "we'll discuss this initiative at a session of the party's presidium".
